Man and Machine: The Practice Plan

Man and Machine: The Practice Plan

Golf has a lovely way of making the truth obvious and annoying at the same time. The scorecard says what happened, but it usually does not tell you what to do next Saturday morning when you have an hour and a bucket of balls.

A few days ago, Oscar pulled my recent rounds into a simple read-only golf file and the pattern was not subtle. The short game had a few bright spots, putting was survivable in places, but approach shots kept showing up as the leak. So instead of giving me a grand theory, the machine helped turn the data into a one-hour practice plan: warm-up, approach ladder, wedge-distance control, random short-game shots, then a small pressure finish.

That is the part I like. The agent can sort the numbers, find the pattern, and make the next session harder to waste. But it still cannot stand over the ball, pick the target, feel the lie, or decide whether I am being brave or just stubborn with a club in my hand.

For me, that is where personal AI gets useful. It does not make the game less human. It helps the human arrive at the range with a clearer job to do.
