Man and Machine: The Readable Company

Man and Machine: The Readable Company

Last night I dropped a public post into my agent, Oscar, about companies that run on agents. He captured the post, saved the diagrams, pulled the public comments, and came back with a simple warning that felt very real. Agents do not run on vibes, they run on context they can read.

That is the quiet work underneath all the exciting AI talk. Before a machine can help with a workflow, the human has to make the work legible: what matters, who decides, what is allowed, what changed, and where the latest version lives. If that layer is stale, the agent does not look confused. It looks confident while doing yesterday’s job.

The unlock for me is that documentation is not admin anymore, it’s operating infrastructure. A good context layer is part map, part memory, part permission system, and part taste gate. The machine can move faster when the human keeps the maze clean enough to travel.

For leaders, that may be the next real management skill. Not asking, “How many agents can we add?” but asking, “What do they need to understand before we trust them with the work?”

Where is your team still making humans carry the map in their heads?
